A political analyst thinks the recent articles devoted to the
Declaration on the Centennial of the Genocide published by the first
Armenian president are just another attempt to remind of himself
in politics.
In his previous two articles and an open letter to President Serzh
Sargsyan in February and March Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who currently
leads the opposition Armenian National Congress, warned that legal
claims set out as a policy in the recently adopted Declaration will
affect the process of Armenian-Turkish normalization.
On Tuesday, he published in the Chorrord Ishkhanutyun newspaper his
own draft of an appeal to the international community on the Genocide
Centennial.
Stepan Safaryan, a political analyst, founder and president of the
Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs, thinks
that the obvious addressee of Ter-Petrosyan's articles is President
Sargsyan, because the latter ordered the Declaration on the Centennial
of the Genocide, however, the political analyst thinks that the first
president's rhetoric has both an inner and an outer addressee.
"It is difficult to believe that Ter-Petrosyan will have serious
supporters inside, the majority of political forces do not share
his viewpoints, the time has shown that those are uncompetitive
approaches. The matter is not about being good or bad, they have
never changed anything in Armenia-Turkey relations and neither did
they solve any problem. We may say that even if Ter-Petrosyan has
internal interlocutors to whom he wants to address his message and
receive alliance, the latter will be very few.
Everything will be limited to his circles," the political analyst
told ArmeniaNow, adding that Ter-Petrosyan is one of those politicians
who generalize processes with outer interlocutors.
"This way he wants to show what Armenia would be under his rule and
what tends to be Serzh Sargsyan's Armenia. He tries to scare outer
interlocutors pinpointing that on such routine Armenia is full of
dangers. I believe he is wrong on this point and as a result we will
have a process which will enable Levon Ter-Petrosyan to say that he
did something during these months, expressed some viewpoint, but as
a matter of fact nothing will work for him anymore," Safaryan said.
