SERZH SARGSYAN: ARMENIA EXPECTS CHINA TO ASSIST IN SOUTHERN RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION
17:42 * 27.03.15
President Serzh Sargsyan spoke of China's possible involvement in
the Armenia-Iran railway construction as he delivered a speech at
the Peking University on Friday.
The Armenian leader said that the logic is in line with President Xi
Jinping's plan to launch a Silk Road trade zone. He noted that the
Armenians goods were marketable in China back in the times of Silk
Road times when the Armenian merchants' ships headed to the ports of
East Asia, especially Honk Kong.
"I am hopeful that the southern Armenia railway construction plan -
as part of Silk Road - will be one of the projects aimed to assist
in the idea's realization.
"In this respect, Armenia expects Chinese companies' active
participation in the railway's construction. It will ensure
proportional development in the region, which is fully in line with
China's 'Peace for Development' slogan. In the meantime, it will ensure
also the Chinese side's active presence in the South Caucasus region,
as well as boost the Armenian-Chinese bilateral relations," he said.
The president further spoke of tourism development potentials, as well
as bilateral efforts towards developing policies built on mutual trust
and interests to guarantee political stability, security, solidarity
and economic development. He added that Armenia is open to build and
strengthen relations in the same style with all other world countries.
