Meeting with Toronto Mayor John Tory

On Monday, March 23, 2015, His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimian, Primate of the
Armenian Apostolic Church Canadian Diocese paid a visit to Mr. John Tory,
Mayor of Toronto.
During the meeting, Mayor Tory and Bishop Hovakimian praised the active
participation of the Toronto Armenians in various municipal initiatives, as
well as in the life of the Church and the community. The Primate and the
Mayor exchanged symbolic gifts, and the Primate was invited to leave a
message in the City Hall guestbook.
Mayor Tory confirmed his participation in the Ecumenical Prayer on April 19,
2015, in the Metropolitan United Church of Toronto, dedicated to the 100th
anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
The Armenian delegation accompanying the Primate on this visit to Mayor

at large, expressed gratitude to the City Hall of Toronto for the continuous

On Monday, March 23, 2015, His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimian, Primate of the
Armenian Apostolic Church Canadian Diocese visited His Eminence Sotirios
Athanassoulas, Metropolitan of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Canada.
Religious leaders exchanged their views concerning the history and current
situation of the Greek Orthodox and Armenian Apostolic communities in
Canada, and discussed various possibilities of cooperation on spiritual,
ecumenical and youth issues.
His Eminence Metropolitan Sotirios confirmed the high level representation
of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Canada at the Ecumenical Prayer on April
19, 2015, in the Metropolitan United Church of Toronto, dedicated to the
100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

On Tuersday, March 24, 2015, His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimian, Primate of
the Armenian Apostolic Church Canadian Diocese paid a visit to Archbishop
Christian Lépine, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church of Montreal.
During the meeting, Archbishop Lépine and Bishop Hovakimian exchanged their
views concerning the history and current situation of the respective
religious communities and discussed various possibilities of cooperation on
spiritual, ecumenical and youth issues.
His Eminence Archbishop Lépine confirmed his participation in the Ecumenical
Prayer on April 20, 2015 in the St. Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal,
dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
His Grace Bishop Hovakimian invited Archbishop Lépine to visit St. Gregory
the Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Cathedral of Montreal.
Lecture on topic of the Armenian Church in Georgia

On Sunday, March 22, 2015, Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church of Toronto
hosted a lecture on topic of the Armenian Church in Georgia by Mr. Levon
Isakhanyan, Assistant, and Advisor to the Primate of the Armenian Apostolic
Church Canadian Diocese.
The Rev. Archpriest Fr. Zareh Zargarian, Parish Priest of Holy Trinity
Armenian Apostolic Church of Toronto welcomed the speaker and introduced him
to the audience.
The lecture was organized by the Christian Education Department of the
Armenian Apostolic Church Canadian Diocese under the auspices of His Grace
Bishop Abgar Hovakimian, Primate, in collaboration with the Armenian Church
Diocese of Georgia.
Topics discussed were the history and the current situation of the Armenian
Church in Georgia, Georgian Government's policy with regard to religious
communities, and challenges faced by the Armenian community, such as the
restitution of confiscated property from religious groups, inequality in the
field of allocation of public funds, etc.
