Valery Permyakov - the Russian soldier who confessed to murdering an
Armenian family in Gyumri - will face trial in Armenia, Oleg Lebedev,
first deputy head of the Russian State Duma Committee for CIS,
Eurasian integration and Compatriots told reporters in Yerevan.
"Russia has done everything possible so that the investigation is
held in the Armenian territory. The trial will also take place in
Armenia, as the people of Armenia have asked for," Lebedev said at
a joint session of the relevant State Duma and Armenian National
Assembly committees in Yerevan on Saturday. He said President Putin
holds control over the case. He is informed of the process once in
three days. Levedev said 19 examinations were held with over 4,000
people being interrogated over the case. After the incident, the
102nd Russian military base in Gyumri underwent significant changes,
up to the replacement of the commander. The new commander will arrive
in Armenia already today.
Permyakov left his post on January 12, penetrated into the Avetsyans'
house and shot dead the family of seven persons
