"Russia attaches great importance to the activity of the Collective
Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)," the secretary of the Russian
Security Council, Igor Ivanov, said in Yerevan today.
Igor Ivanov said this at a briefing on the results of the meeting of
the committee of CSTO security council secretaries in the Armenian
capital today. The meeting was attended by representatives of Armenia,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
The secretary of the Russian Security Council said that the priority
directions of the CSTO activity are the fight against international
terrorism, illegal drug trafficking, illegal migration, etc.
Ivanov also said that "we understand very well that it is impossible
to manage all these problems within the framework of one organization,
which is why we are ready to expand our cooperation with other
international structures, first of all with the UN, as well as with
regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization,
NATO and the European Union".
"The CSTO is confidently finding its feet - it is a serious
organization which has already won international recognition," the
secretary of the Russian Security Council said.
