VRF BEGINS CHILDREN IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM IN ARMENIA
YEREVAN, MARCH 1, ARMENPRESS: The Washington-based
Vishnevskaya-Rostropovich Foundation (VRF), founded in 1991 by
Mstislav Rostropovich, the world-renowned cellist, and his wife, the
acclaimed soprano Galina Vishnevskaya, has pledged 50,000 dozes of
vaccine for mass vaccination of Armenian children against measles,
rubella and mumps and 40,000 disposable syringes as part of its
mission to improve the health care of children in the Russian
Federation and other Newly Independent States (NIS) of the former
Soviet Union through sustainable public health programs that focus on
prevention.
The agreement was signed today in Yerevan by Armenian health
minister Norayr Davidian and VRF executive director Bill Amoss. The
vaccination will cover children between 1 and 6 year old. The gift
will satisfy half of the demand, the rest is to come from the UNICEF.
