CONSULTATION OF REPRESENTATIVES OF CIS HUMANITARIAN COUNCIL MEMBER-COUNTRIES' PRESIDENTS HELD IN YEREVAN

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 25, NOYAN TAPAN. A consultation of Special
Representatives of CIS Humanitarian Cooperation Council member-states'
Presidents was held on December 23 at RA Foreign Ministry. The
consultation was conducted by RA President's Special Representative in
CIS Humanitarian Council, President's Assistant Vigen Sargsian. As
NT was informed from RA Foreign Ministry Press and Information
Department, plenipotentiaries of Armenia, Russia, Kazakhstan,
Tajikistan, Belarus, as well as CIS Executive Committee took part in
the consultation. Issues relating to passage to interstate procedures
for the purpose of coming into force of agreement "On Humanitarian
Cooperation Council of CIS Member-States," as well as issues concerning
formation of Council's staff were among those on consultation's
agenda. They also discussed the directions of Council's work for 2007,
including humanitarian events to be held next year in Agreement's
member-states. RA representative reported about the intention to
organize an exhibition-sale of books in Yerevan, with participation
of CIS member-states, in 2007 autumn. Thoughts were exchanged about
issues of organizing Interstate Fund of CIS Member-States' Humanitarian
Cooperation and provision of its activity. During the discussions
the participants made various proposals, exchanged opinions about
various ideas voiced for the purpose of deepening cooperation in the
humanitarian sphere. The participants considered cooperation verges
with separate international organizations, in particular, emphasizing
initiatives to be implemented jointly with UNESCO. The agreement
"On Humanitarian Cooperation of CIS Member-States" was signed on 2005
August 26 in Kazan. It was ratified by Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan,
Kyrghyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The agreement "On Establishing
Interstate Fund of Humanitarian Cooperation of CIS Member-States"
was signed on 2006 May 25 in Dushanbe, at the sitting of Council of
Government Heads of member-states. The agreement came into force on
2006 November 17. The agreement "On CIS Member-States' Humanitarian
Cooperation Council" was signed on 2006 November 28 in Minsk, at the
sitting of Council of Heads of States.
