YEREVANA, March 13. /ARKA/. The statements made by Azerbaijani leaders
do not contribute to the creation of an atmosphere necessary for
the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, RA Foreign Minister
Vardan Oskanyan stated in his interview to the Armenian "Shant" TV
company. "We must clearly give Azerbaijan to understand that we can
understand the statements made for the domestic purposes.
But if we are convinced of the seriousness of these statements, we
must change our defense tactics," the Minister said. "We cannot wait
for Azerbaijan to become strong and attack Armenia or Armenians on the
Karabakh front. Azerbaijan must clearly realize that if it continues
making statements like this, we can make conclusions and take defensive
steps," the Minister said. In this context Oskanyan pointed out that
during his recent interview RA President Robert Kocharyan gave clear
answers to a number of difficult questions. "It was a clear signal
for Azerbaijan," Oskanyan said. In his interview to Armenian TV
channels, the RA President stated that if the negotiations for the
Nagorno-Karabakh settlement fail because of Azerbaijan, Armenia will
de jure recognize Nagorny Karabakh.
