In a session convened on July 29, the US House of Foreign Affairs
Committee approved Maria Jovanovich's candidacy for the post of the
US Ambassador in Armenia. The Committee's decision is still to be
confirmed in the plenary session of the Senate.
The post of the US Ambassador in Armenia has been vacant since
September 2006. After being frozen twice in the Senate, the candidacy
of Richard Hoagland, a diplomat whose views obviously deny the
Genocide, was recalled.
The Bush Administration proposed M. Jovanovich's candidacy in March
2008.
