PACE President makes official visit to Armenia
Strasbourg, 18.07.2008 - Lluís Maria de Puig, President of the
Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), is to make an
official visit to Armenia from 22 to 25 July to deepen co-operation
between Armenia and the Assembly and to promote implementation of the
Assembly's Resolutions 1609

Following on from the recent visit of the Council of Europe Commissioner
for Human Rights, Mr de Puig intends to assess, in particular, the
credibility of the enquiry into the events on 1-2 March, and will
urgently raise the issue of people detained in connection with these
events. Following his recent visit to Azerbaijan, he will also discuss
the latest political developments concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict.
Meetings are foreseen with the President of the Republic, the Speaker of
the National Assembly, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, among
others, as well as Armenia's Human Rights Defender and the members of
the ad hoc committee looking into the causes of the events in March. Mr
de Puig will also meet representatives of parties in the parliament,
including the Heritage faction, and former President Levon
Ter-Petrossian.

Strasbourg, 18.07.2008 - Le Président de l'Assemblée parlementaire
du Conseil de l'Europe (APCE), Lluís Maria de Puig, se rendra en
visite officielle en Arménie du 22 au 25 juillet afin d'approfondir la
coopération entre l'Arménie et l'Assemblée, et promouvoir la
mise-en-=9Cuvre des R Résolutions 1609

Suite à la visite récente du Commissaire aux Droits de l'Homme du
Conseil de l'Europe, M. de Puig évaluera notamment la crédibilité
de l'enquête sur les incidents violents des 1er et 2 mars, et
évoquera en particulier la question des personnes détenues en
rapport avec ces évènements. Suite à sa visite récente en
Azerbaïdjan, il discutera également des derniers développements
politiques concernant le conflit du Haut-Karabakh.
Des rencontres sont prévues notamment avec le Président de la
République, le Président de l'Assemblée nationale, le Premier
Ministre et le Ministre des Affaires étrangères, ainsi que le
défenseur des Droits de l'Homme de la République d'Arménie et les
membres de la commission ad hoc chargée d'enquêter sur les causes
des événements de mars. M. de Puig doit rencontrer également des
représentants des partis politiques présents au parlement, y compris
le bloc Heritage, ainsi que l'ancien président Levon Ter-Petrossian.
