The editorial office of our newspaper received a news release from the
press service of the Union of Armenians of Russia which we post fully.
"The Russian and foreign media report that on June 2, 2008 an incident
happened on Stavropolski Street in Moscow. They report that the fight
involved "Armenians and Slavic people".
According to the information of the Union of Armenians of Russia, the
incident took place but those involved in it were representatives of
different nations. This information was confirmed by the press service
of the Police of Moscow. They informed that they did not release
information about the incident and the reports which underline the
ethnic motive of the skirmish are not confirmed by the information
at hand.
The fight took place between groups who met to settle scores. The
participants were of different nationalities, but at the moment there
are no grounds to insist that the clash had an ethnic cause.
Amazingly, some media are inclined to underline the ethnic motive of
crimes and incidents even in cases when there is no reason for that.
