ON JUNE 16 COURTS PASS SOME SENTENCES ON MARCH 1-RELATED CASES

YEREVAN, JUNE 16, NOYAN TAPAN. The court of jeneral jurisdication of
Yerevan's Shengavit Community on June 16 found Isahak Malkhasian guilty
under the RA Criminal Code's Article 316 Part 1 (violence against a
representative of the authorities). I. Malkhasian received a one-year
suspended sentence with a one-year probation, NT correspondent was
informed by spokeswoman for the RA Cassation Court Alina Yengoyan. In
connection with another charge against him - the RA CC Article 235
Part 4 - keeping of illegal weapons, explosives or ammunition, the
criminal prosecution of I.
Malkhasian was ended and the court passed a sentnece of "not guilty"
due to the absence of corpus delicti. Isahak Malkhasian was released
in the courtroom. To recap, he is the brother of National Assembly
deputy Myasnik Malkhasian, who is an accused person in a case.
The court of first instance of Yerevan's Kentron and Nork-Marash
communities found Davit Matevosian (a person empowered to act for the
first president Levon Ter-Petrosian) guilty of committing a violence,
not dangerous for life, against a representative of the authorities:
he was sentenced to 3 years' imprisonment.
The Criminal Appeal Court made a decision on the same day, changing
the April 17 ruling of the court of general jurisdiction of Kentron
and Nork-Marash communities, by which Sargis Parunakian had been found
guilty of committing a crime envisaged by the CC Article 316, Part 1
(violence against a representative of authorities) and sentenced to
3 years' imprisonment. By the decision of the appeal court, he was
sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment.
The Yerevan Criminal Court on June 16 granted the petition of
L. Sahakian and and T. Safarian, the lawyers of Vardan Jhangirian
charged under the CC Article 316, Part 2 (committing violence, not
dangerous for life, against a representative of authorities). The
petition had requested to replace arrest of V. Jhangirian with another
precautionary measure - a written undertaking not to leave the place
of residence. In making its decision, the court took into account the
letter of "Hospital of Convicts" penitentiary, according to which
V. Jhangirian is in poor health and needs the care of some other
person, which is impossible in the indicated institution. To recap,
V. Jhangirian is the brother of former deputy prosecutor general of
the RA Gagik Jhangirian, who is also an accused person in a case.
