COMMISSION TO INVESTIGATE 1 MARCH EVENTS

    A1+
    19 June, 2008

On June 19 Member of Parliament Samvel Nikoyan conducted the meeting
of the interim commission formed to investigate the events of March
    1 and their consequences.

The committee voted for the principle of inviting non-parliamentary
representatives to participate in the activities of the commission with
advisory rights and made the list of the participants. The committee
decided to invite one representative from each non-parliamentary
party that received 3 or more percent of votes in the Parliamentary
Elections of May 12, 2007 (i.e. the "National Unity", the "United Labor
Party", the "New Times" Party), and the presidential candidates who
represented political power in the Presidential Elections of February
19, 2008 (namely Aram Harutyunian, Tigran Karapetian, Vazgen Manukian)
or their representatives, except for the political parties which are
included in the committee by the decision of the National Assembly.

The committee decided to request the RA President to nominate one
member from the Public Council to participate in the activity of
    the commission.

The committee is going to send a letter to the secretary of the Venice
Commission Giovanni Buquicchio and the head of the EU delegation to
Armenia Raul de Luzenberger with the request to send international
experts to take part in the committee activities.

The commission will next meet on June 24.
