30% OF ARMENIAN POPULATION TO ACCESS GLOBAL NETWORK BY 2010

    ARKA
    March 11, 2008

YEREVAN, March 11. /ARKA/. 30% of Armenia's population will have
an access to the Global Network by 2010, according to the RA Trade
    Ministry's Strategy 2008-2010.

At present, 10% of the country's population has an access to the
internet. In 2008 15% of the population is expected to become internet
users and in 2009 20% will have an access to the Global Network.

According to the Strategy, 60% of educational institutions will
be computerized against current 10%. At present 10 international
IT-companies are doing business in Armenia and by 2010 five companies
    will enter the local IT-market.

The purpose of the strategy is to make Armenia an IT-developed
country. An information-oriented society contributes to the country's
economic development and involves the population in the development
of government strategies, according to the document.

The RA Ministry of Trade and Economic Development encourages
IT-development and their implementation in economy.

The sphere of information technologies is regarded as an impetus to
    the country's economic progress. About 200 IT-companies with 5,000
employees are conducting business in Armenia. Over 30% of those
enterprises are foreign investment companies. The share of IT in GDP
is 2%. About $15mln has been invested in the field. Some ten millions
of dollars were expected to be allocated for IT-development in Armenia
    in 2007.
