RECIPE FOR SERZH SARKISIAN

"Serzh Sarkissian must display political will and get rid of
oligarchs," People's Party Leader Tigran Karapetian said today. Asked
whether Serzh Sarkissian will be able to do it if he has won the
election with their help, Karapetian said, "Not to rid but say
that's enough. He must say it is enough to evade taxes and enjoy
privileges. It is high time you worked in the legal sphere. All
the states have reached this point and they have said "that's
enough." Oligarchs have already accumulated enough money to make
investments. They shouldn't use people's savings."
Tigran Karapetian thinks the president-elect must take drastic steps
and meet people halfway. "Problems will not be solved through isolating
people. People expect abrupt moves. Besides, there must be a dialogue
with the opposition. Among abrupt changes it is necessary to remove 80
percent of the members of government as they are negatively perceived
by people."
Mr. Karapetian foresees the conditions the opposition will set forward:
release of the arrestees and schedule of an early parliamentary
election. "I also think that an early parliament election is a must
today. It would be a moral move, because the current parliament was
shaped in an immoral way."
During today's press conference journalists wondered whether the
People's Party Leader will run for Mayor of Yerevan if this post
becomes elective after the adoption of the corresponding law.
"I think the post may be given to the ARF Dashnaktsutiun as a
consolation although it can be too much for them," he said.
Nevertheless, the People's Party will run in the election of the
Council of Yerevan because the more members they have in the council,
the greater their chances to have the Mayor's post will be as the
next mayor will be elected by the council.
