For the first time complexion of the president ceased to be the prime
interest of Americans
Barack Obama is now faced with difficult tasks: war in Iraq and
Afghanistan, global crisis, relations with Iran, Israel, and, finally,
relations with Russia.

Once again the USA shocked the world by electing an Afro-American as a
US President. Though no one now recalls that he is dark-skinned only
on his father's side and is of purely Yankee descent on mother's,
these are just particulars now. What is important is that the USA
acknowledged that from now on the white race is not a majority
dictating terms. Thus, it is not excluded that next US president might
be Hispanic or Chinese. Everything is possible in a country of equal
rights.
/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Another important lesson from the US Presidential
Elections is that for the first time complexion of the president
ceased to be the prime interest of Americans. This inspires one with
optimism, which cannot be killed with aimed shots. Drawing parallels
between Obama and John Canady is a bit inappropriate. It would be more
accurate to compare him with famous US President Franklin Delano
Roosevelt.
But obamamania is presently carrying everyone away, which, by the way,
can be given no logical interpretation. The whole world is now talking
of the new US president and is drawing high perspectives on this
matter. Everyone except for Russia. On the very day of electing the
Head of the American Republic, RF President Dmitri Medvedev addressed
the Federal Assembly with a crystal-laid message implying `do not
threaten us, otherwise you will regret'. Or speaking by the cliche of
the western press - «Let sleeping dogs lie».
The newly-elected US President received a welcome note also from
Armenians or, to be more exact, from the Armenian community in the
USA, which by virtue of certain considerations still assures everybody
that it was especially with the help of its votes that the Democrat
presidential nominee was elected a president. Of course, these votes
played their role, but it was not considerable enough for the Armenian
community to voice bright hopes on the recognition of the Armenian
Genocide in the Ottoman Empire already on the second day after the
elections. It is quite possible that in his annual message addressed
to Armenians on April 24 Barack Obama will utter the word
«Genocide», and no matter how sad it might be for the Armenian
lobby, the issue will end there. With the ongoing war in Iraq and
Afghanistan, relations with Turkey are very important for the United
States. It is quite sad that we have to repeat these common truths
every time we speak of relations between Armenian, the USA and
Turkey. `I think no more presidential declarations and Congress
resolutions will be necessary. The Armenian nation should not be
constantly asking presidential candidates to recognize the Armenian
Genocide. In fact, what we want is that the United States is a fair
mediator in the process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict regulation
and it renders more assistance to Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. The
USA should call upon Turkey to protect the rights of the Armenian
minority and return Armenian historical churches to the Patriarchate
of Constantinople,' considers Editor of The California Courrier Arthur
Sasounian, who cannot be blamed for absence of patriotism.
In fact, Barack Obama is now faced with difficult tasks: war in Iraq
and Afghanistan, global crisis, relations with Iran, Israel, and,
finally, relations with Russia. The issue of recognition of the
Armenian Genocide is not and cannot be included in this list in spite
of the fact that American presidents are considered to be the chief
defenders of human rights and democracy. The US foreign policy is
rather pragmatic and the fact that the United States is now friends
with Baku does not mean anything. Azerbaijan is already happy at the
fact that Richard Lugar, «an old friend of Azerbaijan»
is going to become US Secretary of State... Tomorrow the United States
will be in need of Armenia or some other country and it will act as it
is beneficial to itself and not to anyone else.
Nevertheless, the USA can be congratulated on successful
elections. «The country has a hard and long way to go. But I am
sure that America will overcome all the difficulties. There is new
energy to harness and new jobs to be created; new schools to build and
threats to meet and alliances to repair. The road ahead will be
long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or
even one term, but America ` I have never been more hopeful than I am
tonight that we will get there. I promise you ` we as a people will
get there», Obama said in his acceptance speech.
