Forty-one candidates stand for the fifteen seats of the Alderman in
Yerevan's Shengavit district. Nineteen of them are Republicans and are
the Bargavach Hayastan Party (BHK) members. The Orinats Yerkir Party
(OYK), Zharangutiun and ARF Dashnaktsutiun have one candidate.
The district residents turned to be unaware of Alderman's duties. They
even seemed indifferent to the local election. "I see the candidates'
photos posted on building facades but I know none of them," said
60-year-old Aghun.
"The one who has a large circle of acquaintance will win the election,"
said 31-year-old Vazgen. He says the candidates will mostly enjoy
the votes of their neighbours, acquaintances and friends.
"I shall vote for my neighbour as he is a marked man," said 43-year-old
Asya.
Residents' ignorance is also caused by the disappointment at the
acting district head.
"All yards are dirty and dustbins are full. The district mayor neglects
his duties. No matter who is elected they will surely forget about us,"
said 44-year-old Anahit.
