The Azeri National Security Ministry and other bodies are taking
all possible measures to provide security of its oil and gas
infrastructure, National Security Minister Eldar Makhmudov said.
"To this end, the National Security Ministry and other government
bodies and corporate security services are involved in developing
plans and measures to protect all strategic facilities. Taking this
into account, I believe sufficient measures are being taken now to
protect the fuel and energy complex facilities," Mahmudov said in an
interview with Interfax.
Mahmudov acknowledged that there is a certain threat to regional oil
and gas projects emanating from "external forces disagreeing with the
strategic development course chosen by Azerbaijan and the projects
for setting up a new energy and transportation infrastructure."
"Although threats to security of fuel and energy facilities are
analogous virtually in all regions of the world, they have some
specifics in the South Caucasus, particularly in Azerbaijan. First
of all, this concerns Armenia's open threats to the industrial,
transportation, and energy infrastructure located not only in
Azerbaijan but also in the neighboring states," Mahmudov said.
