YEREVAN, August 7, /ARKA/. Armenia's State Commission for Protection
of Economic Competition (SCPEC) has decided today to examine the
structure of the country's petrol market according to the data that
will be available for the first nine months of the year. Earlier the
SCPEC initiated an administrative case after CPS petrol importing
company raised the retail petrol price.
'The CPS company told the SCPEC that it does not deal any longer
with sale of petrol and that a different company-City Petrol Group
-is dealing with it now. As a result it was established that CPS did
not deal with retail sale of petrol in the first half of 2009 and
wholesale prices remained unchanged.
According to the SCPEC, the new company-City Petrol Group- is not
in the list of dominating companies in the market, but on June 15 it
rose retail petrol prices earning as a result higher profits.
"Although both companies were founded by one and the same person,
the composition of founders and the executive director of one of
them were changed, as a result the companies can not be regarded as
a group of persons. This means that not enough evidence was found to
constitute breach of law,' the press release by the SCPEC said.
According to the National Statistical Committee of Armenia, petrol
prices in July 2009 rose 2.9% against June, but diesel fuel pri ce
fell 1.4%. However, petrol and diesel prices in 2009 July fell 17.2%
and 34.2% respectively against 2008 July. But petrol price in 2009
July rose 18.5% while diesel price fell 3.7% against 2008 December.
