YEREVAN, AUGUST 11, ARMENPRESS: Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan
hosted today in the presidential residence the students granted
scholarship by the program of "Louys" foundation and "Louys's
Partner". Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan took part in the
meeting as well.
Deputy Head of the president' staff Vigen Sargsyan said that the
educational fund has begun its activity by the assignment of the
Armenian President and aims to give a financial support to the students
entered the world high ranking universities. The students entered
the leading universities, for the first time in Armenia's history
get the state support for financing their education. Of course, it
is a partial support and is complemented by scholarships extended
by higher educational establishments and by the means received from
other funds. "This is a very important step; the Republic of Armenia,
besides insisting for many years on trying to assist the education
of Armenian students in the world high ranking higher educational
establishments, today is making the first step, and the students
received certificates from the President, which ensure their education
in those establishments", the deputy head of the staff said.
V. Sargsyan attached great importance to the fact that besides the
financial support, the foundation operates by net principles as well
and tries to bring together those students by connecting them with
continuous ties with Armenia, officials, state governmental bodies, as
well as with each other, with Armenian clubs functioning in different
higher educational establishments of the world, and enables them to
take part in the solution of different social and public issues which
Armenia faces and also to create a net, which will give an opportunity
of information exchange and support each other.
By moving forward with the reputation list worked out by the American
"News Report" and other authoritative establishments, "Louys"
foundation has singled out a list comprised of the world best 25
educational establishments of 2009-2010 academic year. Armenians and
Diaspora Armenians entered those universities, become the students of
"Louys" and get a financial support by the foundation. The principle
of the scholarship beneficiaries is one - the entrance to one of the
universities mentioned in the list is already a sufficient condition
to get use of the educational program of the foundation.
V. Sargsyan said that at first there was an idea on including in the
contract a point on their return to Armenia, but it wasn't done by
adopting a principle that conditions are necessary to create for the
return; a student must seek and wish to come back to Armenia after
the graduation and shouldn't do it by legal obligation. Students
may communicate with each other by means of an interactive site,
to present information on their studies.
For them, as well as for other students of high ranking universities a
summer camp will be organized annually enabling to create a periodical
and basic tie with Armenia. V. Sargsyan expressed confidence that
they will receive interesting job proposals, which will be the primary
stimulation for their return.
Forty one students who received scholarship this year have entered
the Universities of USA, Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Massachusetts's
technological Institute, Universities of Economy and Political Sciences
of Great Britain, Oxford, Cambridge and London, different universities
of Canada, France, Switzerland.
Diaspora Armenian students from Russia, Lebanon, USA have received
scholarship as well.
The first partners have already supported "Louys". Fifteen students
being financed by "Ayb" educational fund, are among the 41 getting
financial support. The amount of the scholarship extended by "Ayb"
is 175 000 USD.
"Louys" foundation has received and discussed letters from about 1000
students entered to different universities of the world. Executive
Director of the foundation Zhaklin Karaaslanyan has personally answered
to them.
