ArmInfo. "Creation of joint forces of quick response aims to
consolidate the military component of CSTO. This will also help
consolidate our potential", - said Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan,
who is presiding over CSTO.
As CSTO Press-secretary Vitaly Strugovets told ArmInfo, for his part,
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that the participants in the
meeting of CSTO member states coordinated the draft resolution on
formation of joint forces within CSTO and "agreed that this issue
should be settled". At the same time, Strugovets added that Uzbekistan
can't yet agree with the version saying that the created forces are
to include all special services.
The joint forces will be used to repulse military aggression, conduct
special operations to fight international terrorism, drug traffic,
as well as to liquidate the consequences of emergency situations.
At present the collective security system is based on the regional
principle. There are three regional military groups: Russian-Belarus,
Russian-Armenian and Central-Asian. It is supposed that the joint
forces will be deployed in Russia. At present joint forces of quick
response within the frames of CSTO in the Central Asian region exist
on the level of battalions. The new format of the forces envisages
creation of the bigger group made of the units of all the CSTO
member-states.
