YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 6, NOYAN TAPAN. The murder of the deputy head of
Armenian police has caused despair among officials and ordinary people
and created an atmosphere of fear, the deputy speaker of the National
Assembly, member of "ARF" faction Hrayr Karapetian said at the February
6 briefing. In his words, the fact that the president of the country
has taken this problem under his control will contribute to rapid
detection of the crime. However, as he added, one should not forget
those sensational crimes that were committed in the past and have not
been detected so far.
In response to a reporter's question: "Don't you think that in case of
so many unsolved crimes, the prosecutor general should resign, or the
National Assembly should review his being elected to this post?", H.
Karapetian replied: "Not only the prosecutor general, but also all
representatives of the law enforcement bodies should draw serious
conclusions".
H. Karapetian also spoke about the elections of the council of aldermen
and, based on it, the mayor of Yerevan to be held this year for the
first time, noting that the ARF attaches great importance to it.
According to him, preliminary discussions are being conducted with all
the committees of the party in Yerevan in order to clarify their
positions. "The ARF must run in these elections, there is no doubt as
to it," he stated. However, it has not been decided yet whether the ARF
will run by a separate party list or a united list of the political
coalition.
