World super flyweight boxing champion Vic Darchinyan has returned
to Australia after defending his titles against Jorge Arce in Los
Angeles at the weekend.
Armenian-born Darchinyan retained the IBF, WBA and WBC belts after
stopping Mexico's Arce at the end of the 11th round.
The Ring boxing magazine now rates Darchinyan as the 10th best
pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
Although he has been based in Australia since the Sydney Olympics,
Darchinyan says he is still a national hero in Armenia.
"In Armenia it was 6 in the morning when they're showing my fight,
they told me, any building you see it's all light like it's daytime,"
he said.
"And it's great you know. I think maybe 90 per cent of Armenia saw
my fight on live."
