Within the framework of his visit to the Czech Republic, Armenian
Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian had a meeting with his Czech
counterpart, President of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers Karel
Schwarzenberg. The agenda included issues related to bilateral
cooperation, Armenia-EU relations, and a broad range of regional and
    international questions.

Highly appreciating the trends of development of the Armenian-Czech
relations, Ministers Nalbandian and Schwarzenberg emphasized the
necessity of expanding the contractual-legal field as an important
    factor for encouraging cooperation.

The interlocutors referred to the ways of deepening the trade-economic
relations. In this context the Armenian Foreign Minister said the
results of the Armenian-Czech business forum in July 2008 speak about
the existence of an important potential for deepening cooperation in
    the field of economy.

During the meeting the parties thoroughly discussed different fields
of Armenia-EU cooperation in different spheres. Karel Schwarzenberg
noted that before the summit of the Eastern Partnership Initiative
expected in Prague in May the European Commission and the EU Presidency
will work out concrete steps in that direction.

The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and the Czech Republic discussed the
latest developments in the negotiations on the Karabakh settlement. In
this context Edward Nal bandian drew the attention of the President
of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers to the militant policy
of Azerbaijan, underlining that it hampers EU's steps towards
reinforcement of stability and security in the South Caucasus.

The Foreign Ministers referred to the normalization of the
Armenian-Turkish relations. On behalf of the European Union, Karel
Schwarzenberg expressed support for Armenia's steps in that direction.

The meeting of the Foreign Ministers was followed by a joint press
    conference.
