YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 27, NOYAN TAPAN. "The year 2008 can be classed as
a year of justice becoming dumb and fighting obscenity," Karapet
Rubinian, the Chairman of the Committee for Defence of Political
Prisoners and Persecuted People, stated at the February 27 press
conference. According to him, justice cannot win in Armenia, until
those giving orders to use rude force to peaceful demonstrants and
to open fire at them on March 1 are disclosed.
According to K. Rubinian, though during the whole 2008 violence,
provocations, and tax infringements were used to oppositionists,
they did not retreat and will take part in the March 1 rally.
Touching upon the May 31 election of Yerevan councillor members,
K. Rubinian stated that perhaps as means to restore the constitutional
order and democracy they can take part in it. However, in his words,
if "the current criminal, provincial regime continues to operate,
it is useless taking part in any election."
Today, according to his observation, all important issues are solved
in Armenia by a group of provincials, who have seized the power in
the country.
"It is very difficult to predict that group's further actions, as
they lack logic," K. Rubinian said. The oppositionist also mentioned
that all those looking for contradictions between former and current
Presidents Robert Kocharian and Serzh Sargsyan are mistaken. According
to K. Rubinian, the above mentioned persons act unitedly understanding
that the defeat of one is the defeat of the whole regime. "Though
it is the kind of a person, who is ready to betray his own people at
the moment of danger," he said.
