Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has granted pardons to nine citizens,
convicted for involvement in mass disturbances in Yerevan on March
1, 2008.
Sargsyan signed a decree on January 12 to pardon Yegishe Grigorian,
Karen Tarkhanian, Avetik Gredzhian, Karlen Manucharian, Armen
Movsisian, Arutyun Mkrtchian, Norik Arutyunian, Sargis Parunakian and
Radzha Petrosian, serving from two to four years, the presidential
press service informed Interfax on Monday.
The nine were sentenced to jail terms for participating in mass
disturbances, for illegally acquiring, possessing, transporting
and selling weapons and ammunition, and for offering resistance to
officials during the unrest on March 1.
The pardon was granted "taking into account the inmates' plea to the
president, the absence of earlier criminal records, their family
circumstances and health problems," presidential press secretary
Samvel Farmanian said.
