    PROBLEMS OF SHAHOUMIAN REGION WERE DISCUSSED

    According to the information of the Central Information Department
    of the NKR President's Staff, on January 17, the NKR President Bako
    Sahakyan, accompanied by the NKR Prime Minister Ara Haroutyunyan,
    visited Shahoumian region, and met with the RA government delegation
    with the Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan at the head, having arrived
    at the region the same day.

    President Bako Sahakyan and the RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan
    visited different residential areas of Shahoumian region, had meetings
    with inhabitants. During the meetings, issues concerning the present
    social and economic state of the region and the perspectives
    of its development, as well as those referring to the further
    expansion of contacts between the NKR regions and RA provinces were
    discussed. Special attention was paid to the problems of development
    of infrastructures, particularly, to the issue of Getavan - Sotq
    motor highway construction. During the meeting with the inhabitants
    Bako Sahakyan underlined that Shahoumian is a sanctuary for the whole
    Armenian people, and added that in that context the problem of the
    region's development is of special importance and is constantly in
    the focus of attention of the NKR authorities. The Head of the state
    noted, as well, that a number of complex programmes, which will have
    an appreciably positive influence on the overall development of the
    region, are anticipated to be implemented here.

    During the visit, the NKR President and the RA Prime Minister were
    accompanied by the Ministers of Defence, Urban Planning and Transport
    and other officials of the two Armenian countries.
