PRESERVATION OF NATIONAL IDENTITY IN DIASPORA - PRIORITY OF STATE POLICY

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Yerevan has today hosted the opening of the Contest
on Armenian Language and Literature and Competition on Knowledge
of Armenian.
Opening ceremony was attended by RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan,
Education Minister Armen Ashotyan, Minister of Diaspora Affairs
Hranush Hakobyan and VivaCell company's president Ralf Yirikyan.
Contest on Armenian Language and Literature and Competition on
Knowledge of Armenian Studies has been organized in Armenia since
2003, under the aegis of the Ministry of Education and Science and
the financial support of VivaCell-MTS company.
Contest participants are alumnae (with Armenian and foreign origin)
of different Armenian educational institutions operating abroad.
This year, there were 5 students with foreign origin participating
in the contest.
The working language of the contest will be Armenian. The best 3
participant will receive prizes.
The event is aimed at encouraging knowledge of Armenian language,
literature, history and culture, raising interest in the language,
contributing to the creation of uniform standards in schools operating
in Armenian diaspora and assisting in the implementation of educational
programs.
Addressing to the 130 students of Armenian schools, RA Prime Minister
Tigran Sargsyan said, "Contest and competition which have become
traditional events create best opportunities for deepening knowledge
in Armenian language, literature, history and culture. Education in
Armenian spirit is the foundation for preserving Armenian identity
in Armenia and abroad, as well as one of the best priorities of the
country's state policy."
