/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "To replace present military security system,
NKR is offered ineffective Blue Helmets' mechanism, suggested by
peacemakers," the Chairman of Social Council for External Policy and
Security, ex-NKR Deputy Foreign Minister Masis Mailyan stated.
"Possible introduction of foreign military forces to NKR territory
will sharply restrict the republic's sovereignty. Interference of
peacemakers will contradict NKR's national interests.
Delegation of security responsibilities does not guarantee
strengthening of security and is fraught with new threats."
Masis Mailyan reminded about Karabakh people's previous experience
of communicating with "peacemakers" of soviet period, when military
troops, positioned on NKR territory since 1980s, were unable
to protect Armenian population of Azerbaijan from violence and
pogroms. "Peacemaking operations proved to be ineffective in other
conflict zones as well. Government, sending peacemakers to conflict
regions, will always put their interests and security above the
security of local population," the expert stressed.
