Pollock-Krasner to continue lecture series with Alicia Longwell

    Arts & Entertainment

The Southampton Press & The East Hampton Press (Southampton, NY)
    July 14, 2009

The Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center will continue its season of
lectures at The Fireplace Project, a contemporary art gallery on
Springs-Fireplace Road in East Hampton, on Sunday, July 19, at 5
p.m. with an illustrated lecture, `John Graham, Stuart Davis and
Arshile Gorky: `The Three Musketeers''more than just a candy bar?'
featuring Alicia G. Longwell, chief curator of the Parrish Art Museum
    in Southampton.

Ms. Longwell will take a slightly irreverent look at the complicated
relationship among three major 20th century modern artists, who were
dubbed `The Three Musketeers' by Willem de Kooning.

Ms. Longwell received her Ph.D. from the Graduate Center at the City
University of New York. Her doctoral thesis was entitled `John Graham
and the Quest for an American Art in the 1920s and 1930s.' She
specializes in the art and artists of eastern Long Island and has
organized numerous exhibitions for the Parrish, including `North
Fork/South Fork: East End Art Now' in 2004, and `Sand: Memory, Meaning
    and Metaphor' in 2008.

No reservations are required, and tickets will be sold at the
door. For more information, call 324-4929 or visit www.pkhouse.org.

The Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center, a project of the Stony
Brook Foundation and the Stony Brook University Department of Art, Art
History and Art Criticism, is devoted to scholarship in modern
American art. The lecture series is supported by grants from the New
York State Council on the Arts, the Suffolk County Office of Cultural
Affairs, the Herman Goldman Foundation and the Jerome and Kenneth
    Lipper Foundation.
