GLENDALE-Representatives of the Armenian National Committee -
Glendale Chapter recently held a meeting with the newly appointed
Glendale Police Chief, Ronald DePompa to discuss a number of issues
of concern to Glendale's Armenian-American community and residents
    of Glendale in general.

During the meeting the sides discussed a number of items, including
the need for a more diverse workforce, better recruitment/testing
methods, a cultural sensitivity training program, the Ovasapian vs.

City of Glendale case, and community outreach. In addition, Chief
DePompa updated ANCG representatives on various strategic changes
taking place in the department including a new information system,
which will allow the department to obtain crime trends on a daily
basis and the implementation of area commands through which each team
of officers will be in charge of a designated neighborhood as opposed
    to rotating throughout the city.

"As someone who has grown up in Glendale and has worked in the Glendale
Police Department for the past 30 years, Chief DePompa has a keen
understanding of the various issues facing the Glendale community
and the needs of the force," stated ANC-Glendale Executive Director,
Elen Asatryan. "We were very pleased with the outcome of our first
meeting and look forward to working with the department under his
guidance to launch a cultural sensitivity training program for the
force, to host community briefings and town hall meetings, as well
as to revamp the recruitment video geared specifically towards the
Armenian-American community in the coming months," added Asatryan.

DePompa was joined by public information officer, Tom Lorenz and
representing the ANC-Glendale were Co-Chairmen Leonard Manoukian and
Sarkis Ourfalian and Executive Director Elen Asatryan.

The Armenian National Committee-Glendale Chapter advocates for the
social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the city's Armenian
American community and promotes increased civic participation at the
    grassroots and public policy levels.
