PRELIMINARY CONSTRUCTION WORKS OF THE SECOND NUCLEAR POWER UNIT IN ARMENIA IN PROCESS

YEREVAN, JULY 29, ARMENPRESS: The preliminary construction works of
the second large nuclear power unit in the Republic of Armenia are
being carried out. The decision of Armenian authorities on this is
in implementation stage.
Chairman of the government-affiliated State Committee on Nuclear
Security Regulation Ashot Martirosyan, referring to security issues
today at a meeting with journalists, stated that the current power
unit works exclusively secure, and the preliminary construction works
of the second one will be implemented corresponding to international
standards of security.
Among the conditions required for implementation of the intended works
A. Martirosyan attaches huge importance especially to preparation of
high-quality cadres. This question, as he assured, is in the agenda
of the government.
The chairman of the committee, referring to the research works of
the uranium mine, assured that after the process of the preliminary
studies and in case of a positive result works will be carried out
in the direction of uranium mining as well.
The site of conduction of researches is based between Kapan and Kajaran
towns - at the bank of Voghj River. The Armenian-Russian joint venture
will have ready data on research results by the end of the year and
will publicize them.
The State Committee on Nuclear Security Regulation has been established
on the state decision in 1993. The working staff of the committee
includes 43 employees. An organization of technical support has been
established as well.
