Tert.am
23.12.11
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has thanked his French counterpart
Nicolas Sarkozy over the adoption by the French parliament of the
bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide.
In a letter sent to the French president and disseminated by the press
service of Armenia's presidential office, Serzh Sargsyan said that
"France reaffirmed its commitment to universal values" with that move.
Serzh Sargsyan also said that the adoption of the bill is "the best
proof" of Sarkozy's personal commitment and the strong Armenian-French
friendship.
The bill defines a 45,000-euro fine and up to one-year prison term
for those who will publicly deny that the massacre of 1.5 millions
of Armenian Ottoman Turks in 1915-1916 constituted genocide.
