US Senator Kent Conrad wrote a letter to Azerbaijani Diaspora members
in the US concerning the FY2011 and US assistance to different
regions.
"On February 19, 2011, the House of Representatives passed the
Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act of 2011 (H.R. 1), which would
fund the government through the end of FY 2011", he reminded.
Conard pledged to Azerbaijani Diaspora that he will keep in mind their
concerns over Nagorno-Karabakh financing. He reminded that the US has
spent over 36 million dollars on humanitarian projects for the region
since 1998, with the 2010 assistance containing of 8 million.
In 2011 the assistance "legislation cuts funding for assistance to
Europe, Eurasia, and Central Asia, which includes assistance to
Nagorno-Karabakh, by nearly $45 million from current levels", he said.
However, this bill did not pass the Senate yet. Therefore the senator
wrote to Diaspora saying he "will keep your support for reducing aid
to Nagorno-Karabakh in mind as the appropriations process continues".
