Some students of Galiq University have faced a necessity to petition
the court. Yet in August 2010 the license of the three faculties of
the University was recalled: Juridical, Management, Foreign Languages
and Literature. The university leadership did not inform the students
of that circumstance and the faculties operated illegally for a year.
In fact, the defrauded students who had paid for their education
filed a complaint to the Ministry of Education and Science.
Minister Armen Ashotyan said that the Ministry is not capable to
change anything in such situation. During the seminar on the Bologna
Process Principles on Nov 4-6 in Yerevan, minister Ashotyan recalled
that licenses of certain faculties of a total of 30 higher educational
establishments were revoked. The students of the given universities are
given an opportunity to continue their education at other universities.
As for the students of the above three faculties of Galiq University,
they lost their opportunity to transfer to another university and
one educational year. "It is an unprecedented case when a higher
educational establishment ignores the ministry's decision on revocation
of the license. However, the ministry cannot do anything to resolve
the situation. It remains for the students to petition the court,"
Ashotyan said.
To recall, 7 higher educational establishments were deprived of
their licenses after relevant inspections in 2010: Armenian-Russian
Modern Humanitarian Institute, "Myud" Juridical University, Armavir
University "Ararat", AIU Aria International Univeristy, Vanevan
Institute, Kavenshish Univeristy, Artashat Univeristy. In addition,
licenses of a number of faculties of another 6 higher educational
establishments were revoked, including Galiq Univeristy.
