ARMENIAN POLITICIAN COMPARES ANC TO TURKEY

Armenia can be said to have entered the election stage, Hamlet
Harutyunyan, a Council member, Republican Party of Armenia (RPA),
told journalists Oct. 13.
"My conviction is that it is the forces doing practical work that will
gain victory. That is, they are the forces that will really prepare
for elections. The political parties and alliances that will display
a creative approach to election techniques will come off winners,"
Harutyunyan said.
"No party in any country has succeeded by organizing sit-ins or
political lectures. Even weak political forces can make greater
progress than the ones adopting the wrong election tactic," he said.
Harutyunyan commended the RPA, Prosperous Armenia Party, Rule of
Law party, Heritage party and Armenian Revolutionary Federation
Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D).
According to him, three or four political parties will remain in
Armenia in ten years.
As regards the dialogue between Armenia's ruling coalition and the
opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC), Harutyunyan said that
the authorities "have done their part." "So what is the reason for
the ANC suspending the dialogue and resuming it later?" he asked.
Turkey is doing the same, trying to find any excuse for thwarting
Armenian-Turkish reconciliation, Harutyunyan said.
The coalition and ANC were negotiating and might have also negotiated
the release of the ANC member Tigran Arakelyan. "They [ANC] might have
progressed, using this factor as a means of pressure. They appear
to be mocking at the people: now they conduct the dialogue now they
suspend it," Harutyunyan said.
Some political forces are even now claiming that elections have been
rigged. "Do work! The six or seven months that are left are important,"
he said.
