EVENING DEDICATED TO RENOWNED GRAND MASTER RAFAEL VAHANYAN HELD IN ARMENIA

An evening dedicated to the 60th anniversary of grand master, double
Olympic champion Rafael Vahanyan was held at Al. Spendiaryan Opera and
Ballet National Academic Theatre October 15. Members of the Armenian
chess team, friends, fans came to congratulate the Germany-based
Armenian chess player. Chairman of the Armenian Chess Federation,
President of RA Serzh Sargsyan congratulated the chess player wishing
him health and fruitful activity. "Rafael Vahanyan has left a deep
trace in the history of Armenian chess. Many chess players learnt
from him," Serzh Sargsyan said.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary President presented to
Rafael Vahanyan keys from an apartment in Yerevan. "Let's hope that
nevertheless, Rafael will decide to return to Armenia and settle in
his homeland. Now he has all the opportunities for doing it," Serzh
Sargsyan said, handing the keys. Rafael Vahanyan and Elina Danielyan
were also awarded First Class Orders for "Services to their Homeland".
Members of the Armenian men chess team, headed by the chief coach
Arshak Petrosyan, have been awarded money awards.
