Armenian honey is world's best - businesswoman
September 17, 2011 | 15:37
YEREVAN. - Beekeeping is very much developed in Armenia, and Armenian
honey is the world's best, Multi Agro dairy company's president Roza
Tsarukyan told Armenian News.NEWS.am. According to Tsarukyan, who also
chairs the Beekeepers' Union of Armenia, Armenia's private farms
currently have 500 thousand bee families who provide approximately
5,000 tons of honey products.
In Roza Tsarukyan's words, even though honey production was very
successful this year, honey was not exported, and this is related to
receiving a special registration number from Brussels. This
notwithstanding, honey sales sharply increased in Armenia. `In the
past, I was able to sell a maximum of 3 tons per year, but now even 30
tons is not enough,' Tsarukyan noted.
Chairwoman of the Beekeepers' Union of Armenia also informed that
Armenian mountain honey is the world's best because it is received
from variegated mountain flowers, and the more dry the vegetation is,
the nectar received from the flowers is that much better quality and
has more medicinal properties.
Roza Tsarukyan also stated that Multi Agro sells honey at a price of
3,000 drams ($8 US)/ kg. `Many people ask us why we don't raise the
price of honey, but [Armenian businessman MP and Roza Tsarukyan's son]
Gagik Tsarukyan does not allow that, since the people's purchasing
capacity is not yet high,' Tsarukyan maintained.
