The criticisms made by Vartan Oskanian, a former Minister of Foreign
Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, of the current government,
have already become a rule. www.aravot.am inquired from Eduard
Sharmazanov, the Republican Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly,
whether they merely aimed at propaganda or perhaps Vartan Oskanian
had other aspirations. The response was, "In case of Oskanian,
I have already said once and can repeat. When Oskanian speaks, he
reminds me a famous French diplomat's words, 'There are people, for
whom the biggest cruelty is the departure with power.' Now that man
(Oskanian - edit.) hasn't been in power for five years, dreams,
feels nostalgic and that idea is very characteristic of him."
As for Oskanian's another criticism, Sharmazanov reminds once again
that the party, a member of which the former foreign minister is, has
been and is a full member of the Cabinet. "The party he is a member of
has been the manager of 35%, 1/3 of this Cabinet's budget, it voted for
all important initiatives of the Cabinet, including the drafts of state
budgets, both in the National Assembly and in the Cabinet. One should
just assert one thing that either Oskanian is engaged in populism
and deceives the people or he has chosen the wrong party."
Armen Ashotyan, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA)
council wrote in regard to Oskanian's criticism on his page on Facebook
that he showed his "presidential" aspirations by that. We inquired
whether Sharmazanov shared his fellow party member's opinion.
"Oskanian can wish many things. The history has seen many figures
like Oskanian who wanted to become the President, but there have
been only three presidents in the Republic of Armenia so far," said
our interlocutor, adding, "As my grandma would say, Oskanian will be
left in the basket."
