Chairman of the Union of Political Scientists of Armenia Hmayak
Hovhannisyan says Governor of Syunik marz (province) wants to take
away the premises belonging to the Union.
By a March 1 decision of the Armenian government, the area was given
to Czech-based businessman Benik Julhakyan.
"This man is backed by Syunik Governor Surik Khachatryan," announced
Mr Hovhannisyan.
The Chairman of the Union of Political Scientists says he has been
offered to sell the premises. Artashes Geghamyan's National Unity,
which is located in the same building, has agreed to clinch a deal
with Khachatryan. The same fate is waiting to the other four offices.
"He (Surik Khachatryan) threatens to block the entrance and grasp
everything. Khachatryan should be banned from entering Yerevan,"
says Hmayak Hovhannisyan, who is running in the May 6 parliamentary
elections on the party list of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK).
"Who allowed the premier [Tigran Sargsyan] to disfigure our capital and
give Surik Khachatryan a building in the centre of Yerevan?" he said.
After the scandal with [businesswoman] Silva Hambardzumyan, Khachatryan
was to appear behind bars," Mr Hovhannisyan concluded.
Silva Hambardzumyan became well-known in different circles after
last year's incident with Surik Khachatryan during which the Syumik
governor reportedly assaulted and punched the woman in the Armenia
Marriott Hotel. It came after the businesswoman accused the governor
of misappropriating mining equipment worth more than 100 million
drams from her gold mine.
