The European Broadcasting Union says that Eurovision is apolitical,
but such an event cannot be left out of politics, as it is important
for the whole European community. Bundestag's MP from the Green Party
Volker Beck says in his "Der Standart" article.
Beck thinks that in case of this year's contest, which is to be held
in Baku, it is more than a reality. "All that is taking place in
Azerbaijan is ordered by the tyrant Aliyev and under his control. We
should be concerned that he will turn the contest into a ceremony
for propaganda of his administration," the German MP warns.
According to him, the international media must inform the European
community about human rights violations in Azerbaijan.
"It would really be unpleasant if foreign journalists, especially
those, who work in state radio stations, gave way to the severe
pressure of the Azerbaijani government and didn't speak out about
the human rights violations under the excuse of observing the contest
regulations," news.am quotes Beck as writing.
To note, this is not the first time Beck has spoken against holding
Eurovision-2012 Contest in Baku. Delivering a speech at Bundestag
after the mass protest acts in Azerbaijan he had stated that "Baku is
not a place to hold careless celebrations". He had said Azerbaijanis
"gained the Eurovision at a high cost" through arrests and by forcedly
ousting people from their homes.
