YEREVAN. - A total of 319.2 million cubic meters of water will be
released this year from Armenia's Lake Sevan for irrigation purposes.
The Government on Thursday carried out a change in one of its previous
decisions, thereby increasing by 40 million cubic meters the volume
of water allowed to be released from the Lake.
To note, pursuant to the addition made in the law on approving the
Lake's ecosystem programs, up to 320 million cubic meters of water
is permitted to be released from Lake Sevan in 2012.
A total of 275 cubic meters are already released as of Wednesday,
but Ararat Valley's irrigation problems are not yet resolved, partly
because it is impossible to release water from Aparan Reservoir.
