>From the legal point of view Armenia has an advantage over Azerbaijan.
That's why we should stop considering only political solutions to
the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenia's Deputy Justice Minister,
Director of the Center for the International and Comparative Law
Yeghishe Kirakosyan told journalists on Thursday.
"If need be we can produce all necessary documents for proving to the
world community, particularly, the UN Security Council, that we are
right from the legal point of view. But unfortunately we neglect the
legal aspect of this problem. In fact, no single international document
mentions Armenia as an aggressor. Even more, had Armenia actually
occupied Azerbaijan's territory, the Azeris would still have no right
to break the cease-fire regime after 20 years," Kirakosyan said.
He said that Armenia's response to Azerbaijan's sabotage attacks is
just self-defense. In fact, the Armenians will never be the first to
provoke the Azeris to any unfriendly steps. "Azerbaijan is posing
as an amicable country, but in reality it is taking steps that are
destabilizing the situation in the region. Had we managed to prove this
to the UN Security Council, the latter would have to apply economic
or even military sanctions against Azerbaijan," Kirakosyan said.
