Heads of the diplomatic missions of the USA, Switzerland, France,
Great Britain, Germany, Italy and Romania visited Civilitas Foundation
on June 14. The same day, the EU Ambassador visited the Foundation,
the press-service of the Foundation told ArmInfo.
Director of Civilitas Foundation Salpi Ghazarian informed the
ambassadors in details about the political campaign launched against
the Foundation and its foundation, ex-foreign minister of Armenia,
parliamentarian from Prosperous Armenia Party Vardan Oskanyan. The
ambassadors were informed of the sources of financing and spending as
well as the major areas of activity of the Foundation.
On June 13 the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia
has summoned Oskanyan to offer testimony in relation to a criminal
case regarding money laundering, involving him and the Civilitas
Foundation, which he founded (article 190.3 of the Criminal Code of
the RA money laundering). However, Oskanyan categorically refuse to
give any testimonies. Earlier last week Oskanyan was already invited
to the NSS for the same purpose.
"I find it strange and astonishing therefore that my work and the work
of Civilitas can in any way be linked to money laundering or illegally
acquired funds. Even more astonishing is that such a question is being
raised at a time when I have entered politics. It is obvious to me
that the criminal case that has been opened is politically motivated,"
Oskanian says.
After leaving the post of the foreign minister, Oskanyan founded
Civilitas Foundation that is actively engaged in human rights
protection, democratization and establishment of civil society in the
country. However, following his joining Prosperous Armenia Party,
Oskanyan refused from the position of the Foundation Council Chairman.
