ZHOGHOVURD: ALTERNATIVE ELECTIONS AFOOT - ZHIRAIR SEFILYAN
Tert.am
28.03.12
The newspaper interviewed Zhirair Sefilyan, action group coordinator,
Sardarapat movement.
Below is an excerpt from the interview:
- Mr Sefilyan, the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) has
a rather long list of candidates. What do you think of the number of
seats the ANC may have in the future parliament?
- I do not think the opposition candidates running for parliament in
single-member constituencies may gain a single seat in parliament. The
authorities say: "Try and get votes by means of PR, and it is up
to us to decide on the number of seats to grant you. That is, the
opposition is expected to beg."
- Why did you leave the ANC? You might be running for parliament
together.
- I explicitly announced my secession from the ANC. I have not had
anything in common with them for a long time. I tried to join the
democratic movement and support our people. I tried to give advice
to Levon Ter-Petrosyan. Several months later, however, I understood
that it was senseless. Now I am going about my business.
- What business?
- We are preparing for alternative elections. We will lay the
foundations for forming authorities outside the rules of the game.
