The meeting of the Anti-Corruption Council announced by the prime
minister has been postponed. Either the opposition refused to
participate or the prime minister has understood that another futile
meeting with bombastic speeches will spoil his image.
The struggle against corruption is never gathering the necessary
momentum. Transparency International describes Armenian corruption
"elite" on which the pyramid is built.
The new prime minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili stated that the
former government of Georgia has succeeded eiliminating corruption and
crime at the lower and middle levels but corruption is now concentrated
at the higher level and he is going to tackle with this issue.
Russia has already set to deal with high-ranking officials. The
minister of defense Serdyukov is involved in the case of corruption
in the army and he may be indicted.
In Armenia the case of the low-quality buffalo meat imported to
Armenia and procured by the army for a high price was successfully
covered up. Even the deputy chief of staff was dismissed but the case
was not made public.
The buffalo meat got to some nursery schools in Stepanakert causing
food poisoning in several dozens of children.
There might have been a decision to disclose a major case during
the meeting of the council but at the last moment it was decided not
to surrender insiders so the prime minister decided to postpone the
meeting because empty rhetoric is anti-PR for the government.
During the meeting in the prosecutor general's office Serzh Sargsyan
highlighted three unacceptable aspects of prosecutors. The press
reports that these aspects have already been addressed, and the
prosecutor general announced that charges will be brought against
those who will concoct cases.
The worst thing this government can do to its corrupt officials will
be dismissal. Only "poor" Vazgen Khachikyan was not lucky enough who
has been sent behind the bars. Oskanian may also have trouble for
spending the money of the American millionaire carelessly.
And who cares that the Armenian budget is being robbed. All the
efforts must focus on protecting the millions of the American Mormon.
