Syrian newspaper Al Thawra Fouad el Wadi a few days ago published an
article on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The article says that the
language of the war began to return between Armenia and Azerbaijan
because of the amnesty of Safarov, the Azerbaijani soldier who killed
Armenian soldier Gourgen Markaryan, and was treated like a Hero when
he returned to Azerbaijan.
The article says that although the international community is trying
to solve the conflict in diplomatic ways, the solution still seems to
be far. The writer thinks that the reason of not finding a solution is
that many countries are trying to make the situation worse, by selling
arms to these countries. For example Israel that sees Azerbaijan as
an important market for arms deals that estimate hundreds of millions
of dollars, gives the names of many military industrial companies in
Israel who have contracts with the Azerbaijani government. So the
writer blames Israel for making the conflict between Armenia and
Azerbaijan worse.
After that the writer gives a historical introduction about the
conflict in Karabakh - how the war began between Armenia and Azerbaijan
and the ceasefire agreement was concluded in 1994.
He also notes that although Karabakh is not a recognized country by
the international community, it continues building its institutions,
creating its own constitution (in 2006), and holding regular elections
as an independent country whose name is Artsakh, because Karabakh is
the Azerbaijani name for this part of territory, but the Armenians
call it Artsakh.
