TURKEY'S HIGH DIPLOMACY RECOGNIZES GENOCIDE - ARMENIAN EXPERT

Turkey has acknowledged the Armenian Genocide on a high diplomatic
level for the first time in history, the president of the Forum of
the Armenians Unions of Europe has said.

At a news conference on Friday, Ashot Grigoryan substantiated his
statement by a 2009 appendix to the Slovakian Criminal Code, which
penalizes the denial of the crimes against humanity (genocide,
    holocaust).

"The article in the Criminal Code allowed me to subject Turkish
Ambassador to Slovakia Gulan Ulutekin to liability," he said.

In a book published after Genocide commemoration events, the diplomat
called for caution to the topic, claiming that more Turks were slain
in the Genocide period compared to the Armenians, Grigoryan explained.

"This means she admitted the fact of the Genocide. We then wrote
a letter to Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, expressing
gratitude to him and saying that we admitted Turkey's first ever
move to recognize the Armenian Genocide on a high diplomatic level,"
    he noted.

The amended Slovakian Criminal Code later enabled Grigoryan to file
a lawsuit against the Slovakian ambassador in Baku, who appeared too
tempted by the Azerbaijani oil dollars to deny the existence of such
    a law in the country.

"I turned to our Foreign Ministry, asking for intervention, but
surprisingly, no measures were taken. Then, on my own initiative, I
turned to [Armenian Ambassador] in Moscow Oleg Yesayan who later had a
meeting with the Slovakian ambassador to Azerbaijan. Oleg Migash. And
it turned out Migash was unwilling to step aside from his statement,"
    he said.

"First, we launched a proceeding against the Turkish ambassador in
early July, and later in the month, there was another case against
Migash. The result was fantastic. The first [case] is closed, and
we are thankful for that. But the second, which also involved an
evidence of corruption, received the following response by the General
Prosecutor's Office, 'We have launched a process and it is underway',"
    Grigoryan added.
