PROSECUTOR DEMANDS 6 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR ARMENIAN OFFICER WHO TRIED TO BLOW UP HARSNAKAR RESTAURANT

The trial of Armenian Lieutenant Colonel Vardan Samvelyan who tried to
blow up the Harsnakar Restaurant started today at the Court of General
Jurisdiction of Yerevan's Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts.
Prosecutor Tigran Harutyunyan demanded 6 months in prison for the
defendant as well as a fine equal to AMD 200,000.
Earlier, Samvelyan's lawyer, Hovhannes Harutyunyan, filed a petition
to designate the case as expedited as the defendant had admitted
his guilt.
The verdict will be announced at the next court hearing on October 4.
On the night of July 1, Vardan Samvelyan made an attempt to blow up
the Harsnakar Restaurant, where military doctor Vahe Avetyan, 35,
and two of his colleagues were severely beaten by the guards of Ruben
Hayrapetyan, Harsnakar Restaurant's owner, on June 17. Samvelyan
wore a military uniform and carried a bag, in which two grenades,
cartridges and explosives were discovered.
