The first flight between Yerevan and Turkey's Van, which was originally
scheduled for April 3, has been postponed at Turkey's initiative.
"The Turkish Directorate-General of Civil Aviation has postponed
indefinitely the decision on arranging direct flights between Van and
Yerevan starting from April 2013," the travel company Narekavank-Tour,
the Armenian organizer of flights to Turkey, told Interfax on Friday.
"The flight organizers were guided by reasons of development of tourism
and cultural ties and avoided politicization of this issue, which
the Turkish authorities failed to do. We hope the Turkish authorities
will display common sense and reconsider their decision," it said.
The flight organizer on the Turkish side was the Bora Jet airline.
Turkey and Armenia do not have diplomatic relations, and the border
between the two countries has been closed at Ankara's initiative
since 1993.
